Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Bolo Tie – Irene Platero (IP), c. 1960s
Handcrafted by Navajo silversmith Irene Platero, this striking mid-century bolo tie embodies the artistry of the Southwest. The rectangular sterling silver bolo tie showcases two vivid turquoise cabochons—likely Kingman or Sleeping Beauty—and a single red coral cabochon set amid flowing hand-applied silver scrolls, a floral motif, and a twisted-rope border.
The reverse bears the hallmark “IP” for Irene Platero and the
“Bennett Pat. Pend.” clasp, dating the piece to the late 1950s–1960s. Heavy silver arrowhead dangles hang from flared conical tips on a braided leather cord, completing this statement of desert elegance.

She died in 2002 at the age of 77, but her work remains highly sought-after by collectors of Native American jewelry.
